    What OS Am I Running? What’s My Version of Windows? – We are here to help to find the answers. For windows users there is a quick and easy way to find some key information about their Windows version. Most of us don’t really pay much attention to it but there is a Key piece of info most of should a least know.

    So to find your Window OS version varies slightly from Windows versions.  Follow the below steps on how to determine what version of Windows you have installed on your computer.

     

    Find Version of Windows  7

    1. Click the Start button,
      1. This is found in the lower left corner of your main Desktop screen.
    2. Click the Run or click on the Search field,
      1. If you can not find the Run icon on the list there is a windows shortcut key combination you can use – Windows Key + r
    3. Now type winver
    4. Then press Enter.

    You should then see a new window on your screen giving you some details about your Windows 7 version. Some details such as Version Number, the Build and any Service Pack installed. Near the bottom you will also see who the Windows OS is licensed to.

    Find Version of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

    1. Move the mouse to the left hand side to open the side panel,
      1. If you can not find the side search icon, there is another windows shortcut key combination you can use – Windows Key + s
    2. Click on the search icon at the top of the side bar
    3. Type Run in the search
    4. Next click the Run icon,
      1. If you can not find the Run icon on the list there is a windows shortcut key combination you can use – Windows Key + r
    5. Now type winver
    6. Then press Enter.

    You should then see a new window on your screen giving you some details about your Windows 8 version. Just like Windows 7 there are details such as Version Number, the Build and any Service Pack installed. Also who the Windows OS is licensed to.

    Find Version of Windows 10

    For Windows 10 the easiest way to find the version is by

    1. Using the windows shortcut key combination you can use – Windows Key + r
    2. Now type winver
    3. Then press Enter.

    You should then see a new window on your screen giving you some details about your Windows 10 version. With the Version Number, the Build and any Service Pack installed as well as who the Windows 10 OS is licensed to.

    This easy way to the OS version will also work in Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, as the shortcut key combination is found in all Windows OS versions.  But there are other ways you find the OS version.

     

    Alternative methods

    Find Version of Windows via Command Prompt:

    Open CMD and type ver

    C:\Users\User> ver

    and then press enter. You should see the Windows version like the image below.

    if you can nor find the Command Prompt, then type CMD in Run and press enter, this will open the Command Prompt window like above.

     

    You can also find the windows version via the Control Panel options, which will also give you some system details.

    System details in Windows 7 

    1. Right-click on My Computer on the Windows Desktop or in the Start Menu.
    2. Select the Properties option

    From here you will find the version of Windows on your computer and whether it is 32-bit install or 64-bit.

    System details in Windows 8 or 8.1

    1. Use the windows shortcut key combination  – Windows Key + s
    2. Then type ‘ about your pc ‘ and then select it.

    You will now find the version of Windows 8 or 8.1 on your computer and whether it is 32-bit install or 64-bit.

     

    System details in Windows 10

    Windows+I to open Settings. In the Settings window, navigate to System > About.  Scroll down a bit and you’ll see the information you’re after.

    1. Use the windows shortcut key combination  – Windows Key + i – this will open the Windows Setting screen
    2. Then select the ‘ System ‘ option.
    3. Scroll down the list on the left hand side and click in ‘ About
    4. Scroll down the page to find you system information
