PlatinumGames Wants To Port The Wonderful 101 To Switch, Talks About Bayonetta 3 – News

At Reboot Develop 2018, a European game developer summit and conference held in Croatia, PlatinumGames’ Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya held a talk where they discussed a few of their projects from the past and the future.

As reported by Eurogamer, the topic of Kamiya’s last released game, The Wonderful 101 on the Wii U, came up. “We’re going to knock the audience participation up a bit,” Kamiya said. “They’re still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen but it always helps when the people in the audience at Reboot clap if they’d actually buy a Switch version of Wonderful 101. So anybody who would buy that, please clap,” to the sound of the entire room applauding.

When the topic of Bayonetta 3 came up, Kamiya explained the game would be another linear progression action game, much like the previous titles. Still, he wants the team to up the ante on Bayonetta 3. “Bayonetta 2 was a fantastic title and they need to make sure this is leaps and bounds above that,” Kamiya explained through the translator. “They know that the fans expect crazier, better, tighter action games. If they’re going to put out Bayonetta 3, it’s going to have to raise the bar.”

Bayonetta 3 was announced last December alongside Bayonetta 1 and 2, which were re-released for the Switch in February. Last year, PlatinumGames tweeted an image of Wonderful 101 characters, including the Wonder Director based on Kamiya, playing the game using Switch joycons. The tweet came around the same time as a similar tease of Bayonetta games being ported to the Switch, which eventually got confirmed.

Inaba and Kamiya hinted at other projects the studio has in store, including a very nascent project that a core team is extremely excited about but they haven’t quite put their finger on yet.

    Our Takes
Kamiya says that PlatinumGames and Nintendo are still in talks about a port, but it wouldn’t be the first time a developer asks for fan support after the ink has already dried. Considering how many Wii U games are getting ported to Switch, it would seem odd to leave this one languishing.
